What kind of TV should you use with EMD?

Having the right screens is essential to the effectiveness of your display. So the question is: what kind of TV should you use with EMD?

The questions to ask yourself before choosing your screens

1. What is your budget? If you are deciding mainly on price, it is important to know your budget from the outset so you know what you can afford and don’t waste time on options that are out of reach.

2. What will your screens be used for? The uses are varied. Some small retailers display their menu on a small screen: an affordable consumer TV may well be enough. Other, larger customers use these screens as premium advertising space in their shop windows and are looking for more professional screens, with clean lines and minimal bezels. How are you going to use your screens?

3. How often will the screen be used? Will you run it 24/7, or only a few hours a day? When making your choice, find out about the screen’s lifespan. Traditionally, LCD screens have a longer lifespan than plasma screens; however, check with your reseller about the latest technological advances.

4. What will the physical layout of your screens be? Do you prefer the classic landscape format or portrait orientation? How much wall or floor space have you set aside? This determines the maximum screen size you can consider. If you plan to assemble several screens, take the bezel thickness into account.

5. What mounting supports will you need? A shop window, a unit, wall mounts, or a video projector and its projection screen?

6. What type of screen are you looking for? There are many options:

  • A standard TV, around 250 cd/m²
  • A digital signage display, from 300 cd/m² to 4000 cd/m², with better anti-glare treatment.

Your answers to these questions will help you settle on your final choice.

The best-known brands in the digital signage field are LG, Samsung and NEC. Their specialist screens guarantee a low failure rate.

You can use any consumer TV indoors with low light exposure, but be aware that they will not necessarily offer the same performance or reliability as professional digital signage displays.
